Roses are the symbol for romance and love
as witnessed by the approximately 224 million roses grown for Valentine's Day annually worldwide. Roses are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world and gorgeous in the garden when climbing up trellies or in groups along the fence and the scent... Just be careful of the prickles which we incorrectly call thorns!
An abundant peach rose with a deep, apricot heart, the Juliet Rose is the most expensive rose in the world. Although the heavenly Juliet rose can be purchased for less than its $5 million price tag it is known as the “£3 million rose” because that's how much it cost famed rose breeder David Austin to create the apricot-hued hybrid over the course of 15 years.
Below is a rose from the Gardens in Christchurch, New Zealand, not as expensive as the Juliet but quite beautiful in its own right! Please visit our Garden photoprints and cards to see more
As the Bettle Midler song goes...
"Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose"
Now that it is almost Spring and in these days of hope for the pandemic immunizations, etc. people will be able to get outside again after a bleak winter and putter again in the garden and enjoy the Spring shoots allowing for sun-filled days and glorious fire-pit nights with music and laughter. It's not about the money folks, it's about the joys of life and often these are free.
